What areas of Lackawanna County are eligible for the USDA Mortgage Program?

The areas in Lackawanna County that are not eligible for the USDA Mortgage Program can mainly be found in the region right around Scranton. This ineligible region includes the Interstate 81 corridor running up from the Luzerne County line through Scranton and up to around Dickson City. In Scranton, once you get east of the Casey Highway the county opens up as USDA eligible. West of the Scranton as you head into Scott Township or Ransom Township, the county also becomes USDA eligible again.

Outside of the Scranton metro area, the rest of Lackawanna County is geographically eligible for the Rural Development Loan program. Many people who commute to the Scranton area will be able to purchase a home just outside the city in a USDA eligible area.
